QIN NA (CHIN NA)

Effective Joint-Locking Techniques for All Martial Styles
Make a Reservation YMAA Boston, Boston, MA - January 16-17, 2010, 9:00am - 5:00pm
Qin-Na (Chin Na) means "Seize and Control" and is one of the four major elements of any martial arts training (kicking, punching, wrestling, Qin-Na). It comprises of techniques specializing in joint locks, cavity press, and muscle/tendon grabs to subdue and control opponents.

The successful execution of any Qin-Na technique relies heavily on skill and practice, as proper angling, timing, application of pressure and leverage are all essential keys to making it effective. The material taught in this seminar is readily incorporated into other martial styles and systems.

SEMINAR/WORKSHOP PROGRAM

The Shaolin Qin Na program is divided into 6 levels. Attending one level per seminar season is strongly recommend. Depending on the size of the group, the attendees will either be split into separate levels, or the whole group will work in detail in intercepting, counter-attacks, takedowns, and practical approaches on selected techniques.

Each level contains more than 15 techniques that require much time and practice to be effective. The first 5 levels target the fingers, wrist, elbow, shoulder, neck, and waist areas. Level 6 consists of leg Qin-Na, detailed applications, and Qin Na counterattack techniques.

WHO'S TEACHING?

YMAA Instructors Jim Noble and Paul Green have studied White Crane, Long Fist, and Qin Na with Dr. Yang for over 10 years and will be leading the seminar exercises. Additional instructors will also be available including Aaron Damus and Nicholas C. Yang.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Everybody is welcome to attend this Qin Na seminar. Previous martial arts experience is a plus, but not required. Attendance is limited, so register soon. This seminar will benefit:
  • Martial artists of all styles who would like to learn and incorporate quick and effective locking techniques into their practice
  • All interested in graduating and becoming a Qualified YMAA Instructor of Qin-Na
  • All YMAA students (Taiji and Shaolin) who would like to refine their Qin-Na techniques

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

There are no special requirements for this seminar. We recommend wearing loose practice clothing (T-shirt and pants) and a pair of indoor shoes, unless you prefer training barefoot or in socks. Street shoes are not permitted on the training floor.
