The Essence of Taiji

Yin and Yang Taiji Symbol Sticking Hands training (silk reeling Jin in Chen style), has been considered as an essence of the entire Taijiquan art. The main purpose of this training is to ‘connect’ the body.

Once in motion, [the] entire body must be light [Qing] and agile [Ling], [it] especially should [be] threaded together. – (Taijiquan Classic)
The root is at the feet, [Jin or movement is] generated from the legs, mastered [i.e. controlled] by the waist and manifested [i.e. expressed] from the fingers. From the feet to the legs to the waist must be integrated, and one unified Qi. - (Taijiquan Classic)

From this training, a practitioner will establish firm physical and mental conditions which can lead him/her to a proficient level of Taijiquan practice, especially Pushing Hands. The entire practice of Taiji Symbol Sticking Hands includes Yang Taiji Yin-Yang patterns, Yin Taiji Yin-Yang patterns, and the mixture practice of the Yin and Yang patterns.

This Video demonstrates the Yang side of the Taiji Symbol training. The other two patterns are covered in other videos.

This program is designed for self-instruction and divided into five parts.

  • Self Practice of the Yang Taiji Yin-Yang Pattern
  • Stationary Partner Training
  • Moving Forward / Backwards Partner Training
  • Parallel Stepping Training
  • Bagua Circle Stepping Training
